About the Play

Enriching your heart and soul at Easter

The Easter play at Spicer Uniting, St Peters, lies at the heart of the Easter tradition. Spicer’s ‘Easter Sights & Sounds’ is a regular expression of ministry and mission since 1995.

Easter plays first began in the middle ages to celebrate the Resurrection, being performed on Easter Day during worship. This spiritual tradition evolved over the years into a series of dramas that enable people to enter into the story in a deeper and more experiential way. These became known as Passion plays and they encompass the narrative from the entry into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday), Last Supper, Good Friday, the Resurrection and can often include the post Resurrection appearances to the call of the disciples. Passion plays have been performed for hundreds of years the world over. Of the Passion Plays, Oberammergau is the best known.
