The Resources and Development (RAD) committee manages the finances and building maintenance of Spicer. We meet monthly to review the budget and attend to the ongoing maintenance of the church buildings and grounds. Over the last 4 years a major upgrade of our buildings has improved our facilities and made them more comfortable and pleasant for worship and conducting our outreach activities.
To achieve this we borrowed funds from the Uniting Churches finance arm “UCInvest”. Due to the generous donations from our church community members during the renovations and since, we were able to fully repay this loan in June. This leaves the church with no debt and reasonably modern and functional facilities.
We can now concentrate more on promoting our outreach and mission and direct more funds to this most important area of our community witness.
However we still need to keep our buildings maintained so to this end we have sanded and coated the hall floor, upgraded some old electrical wiring in the church and put ceiling fans in the kitchen to make it more comfortable to use in the summer. We have also engaged a roof contractor to repair leaks in the hall roof and the atrium area.
With the assistance of Ian Johnson we will be installing an overhead projector and screen in the Mark room to assist with Messy Church and Spicer community lunches as well as making the room more attractive for hirers.
We will be holding regular working bees clean up weeds etc around the church and to do some minor repairs. We will announce the dates closer to each occasion.
The ongoing commitment of our Spicer community to the work of Spicer and our Christian influence in our area is very heartening. We pray that our community is able to continue this level of private support and also continue to support our church fund raising activities so we are able to extend our witness to those currently outside our church community.
